Methods Research and Development Program

Analytical Chemistry, Research and Methods Development

The Water Resources Discipline maintains a state-of-the-art capability for the development of chemical analysis methods at the National Water Quality Laboratory (NWQL).  The Methods Research and Development Program (MRDP) comprises the staff and facilities for environmental chemistry research, analytical chemical method development, sample preparation, field sampling and automation for laboratory and on-site measurements.  Facilities include modern sample preparation labs with a clean room, various robotic systems, GC, GC-MS (single quad, ion trap and magnetic sector), HPLC, HPLC-MS, LC-MS/MS, ICP-MS and other instrumentation and equipment.

Doing Business

The NWQL has different types of reimbursable agreements to meet the needs and interests of federal agencies, state and local governments, industry and other organizations.  The following are brief descriptions of the types of the most commonly used agreements for technology transfer.  The NWQL does not compete with private industry and will not accept work that can be performed by commercial sources.  Click here to review descriptions of the types of agreements available.

The Methods Research and Development Program has worked with many kinds of public- and private-sector organizations.  Click here to review a sampling of MRDP partnerships and projects.
